Evaluating Nature Matters

Nature Matters was an ambitious project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund via a £229,200 grant, which ran from April 2022 to April 2024.

The project has transformed the way that the Yorkshire and North East Film Archive has revealed, researched, and retold environmental stories preserved in their vaults. In today’s world of information overload and climate anxiety, it’s very easy to become overwhelmed and disengaged. Nature Matters has provided a gentle route to rediscovering our innate connection with our environment, using the past to reflect upon the present and the future.

Over the course of two years, Nature Matters has preserved, digitised, collected and screened important and often largely unseen screen heritage for broader viewing and discussion, which in turn has provided greater access to the Archive’s collections.
