The film begins with the Princess Royal getting out of her car. She is greeted by the Mayor and watched by a crowd. A procession makes its way to the War Memorial, filmed from the Town Hall, with crowds lining the streets. Across the road on the corner is Timpson Footwear. The Princess Royal walks past a guard of honour of the York and Lancester Regiment. They then walk to the Cathedral to be greeted by the Archbishop of York for the opening of the new chapter in the Chapel House.
