This is a film showing various events in Selby, including a sponsored walk and a pensioner’s party. Most of the events, including school parties and a parade, are to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977.
The film begins with several groups of young children being led around a field by adults. They gather together at one part of the field where some of the children are seated. A woman hands over items from a stall (sponsored walk?).
Two elderly couples walk along a road. This is followed by school children singing in a classroom, and a school play which is being performed for the parents.
There is a pensioners’ party, with all the pensioners seated on long tables. The younger women serving are dressed in grass skirts. A woman sits in front of a cake having a crown on top. Back at the party, one of the male pensioners, with a young woman on either side, sits with his trousers rolled up above his knee.
The film switches to show a neon sign written on the walkway of BOHM Silcock, above a road: “Welcome to Barlby”. A coach with “The Queen’s Silver jubilee 1977” written on the side pulls off, and there is a party in a school, with children playing various games, such as musical dancing. Tables are laden with food, and a man performs some magical tricks for the children. A woman passes over some jugs of drink, and they all sit down to eat. One girl shows off her souvenir Jubilee mug. Everyone is presented with a mug and a packet of sweets. A float bearing the words: “Barlby Bridge” drives past. This is followed by a procession headed by a marching band with some vintage vehicles and many floats. People on the parade are in fancy dress, including two women as Laurel and Hardy, and the film comes to an end.
