The film begins with a visit to the village of Cobham. The film shows h a pub plaque, ‘Dickens Old Pickwick, Leather Bottle,’ timber framed buildings, ‘The Darnley Arms’, and ‘The Ship’. They visit a castle on the Thames estuary, a church, and take an extensive tour of a Canterbury pub patronised by, among many others, Dickens, Kipling, Ellen Terry. They look around the shops at Broadstairs, many named after Dickens’ novels, and his house, overlooking the sea. They look around the harbour, watching the boats, including a reproduction of a Viking boat. Then onto Sandwich village, with a pub called ‘The Crispin’, Walmer Green, with the castle facing the sea. The family are shown with their bicycles before the film finishes at the car ferry at Dover.
