Title – Behind the Crag
Intertitle – Kilnsey Quarry
The film begins with a view over the valley and then the sign for Kinsey Park. The rock face is being blasted, and the stone that falls is loaded onto lorries.
On the other side of a rock face there is a quarry where a man is operating a machine that is drilling into the ground. He moves the machine out of the way and loads some boxes of explosives and some sacks labelled ‘Nitrochimie’ onto an earth mover which they drive to the top of the rock. Here they unload the boxes and sacks. The men connect explosives to an electric cable, lower them into the bore holes, and pack the holes with gravel. One of the workmen then mixes some white power with a red mixture and lays this over the cable, followed by gravel. He wraps the cable around another wire which he connects to a fuse wire. He then lights the fuse and walks off to squat inside a protective shelter.
The explosives go off, causing a section of the rock face to come away. The rocks are loaded onto trucks. The man operating the Eskett loader does some nifty manoeuvring. The rocks are tipped into a crusher and emerge as gravel which is heaped into a pile. Inside an office a man does some calculations on an adding machine, and the film comes to an end.
