This is a film made by Vaughan and Co. of Hull of a fancy dress procession in Preston, in East Riding, possibly celebrating the Queen’s Coronation in 1953.
The film begins with a group of men standing outside a licensed premise with its blackout blinds down. On the corner of Main Street, a couple of women in fancy dress, one in Hull FC football gear, stand with a group of boys who are having a tussle. Children and adults stand on the kerb as a fancy dress parade passes. Groups of people stand around, with several prams, near the single storey timber building. The parade continues through the town centre. One man is dressed as a TV set, another as Mrs Mopp. They have now all assembled in a field, where the fancy dress competitors line up. This is followed by a children’s fancy dress competition. Children not competing stand and watch.
