The film begins with some children looking at the camera, followed by a large group of women and then a group of men, each lined up in front of a large marquee, posing for the camera. A carnival procession, with people in fancy dress, passes through the village, past the shop of T Midgley and Sons. One float has a jazz band playing, being pulled by a tractor. Children and adults emerge from the village hall all in fancy dress and line up in the street outside and set off, with two girls holding a banner which states, ‘Play up for E. R.’. The procession arrives in a field, where there are boys sprint races.
