This is a film by Michael Lockwood of the annual Gala in Keighley.
The film begins with a Highland band leading a procession, followed by a float carrying the Keighley Gala Queen. They turn a corner, passing the shops for ‘John Manners’, ‘Fox’s’ and ‘Radio Rentals’. There are floats for Sildsen Gala Queen, “T’ Amateurs 1964 Rose-Marie,” on a Fred Tillotson lorry, and with the themes of Native American Indians, teenagers with Beatles posters, television shows, Keighley Road Safety Committee, a “Knock out Accidents” float, illustrated by a boxing match, floats for St Andrew’s School Keighley, the employees of Fred Hurtley, in middle eastern costume, and a William Shakespeare float. Following this is the Boys Brigade, army vehicles and the Fire Brigade. The procession enters a field where they are treated to a demonstration of the skills of German Shepard dogs and an air show with parachutists. Then we see people enjoying a fair, followed by a fireworks display.
