The film begins with people walking through the countryside towards the start of the hunt. There is a sign for contributions to the CAP. Some are dressed in hunt uniforms, some on horses and some on foot. The beagles arrive. A hare is spotted (hence halloa, which is cried out), and they are off, with the commentary informing us that the whipper is guiding the pack, watched by onlookers. We are also informed that the blue hares from Scotland turn white, and so stand out. Much of the hunt is filmed, and a hare is held up by a hunter at the end.
