Sign – Thronton Dale
The village sign, as well as the rest of the village, is covered in snow. There is footage of the stream near the centre of the village and some nearby countryside. Children are sledding down a steep hill.
Now summer, the houses and village green are filmed on a sunny day.
The film moves onto the seaside, possibly Robin Hood’s Bay, where there is a steep incline from the beach to the nearby houses. Part of the coastline and cliffs can be seen.
Now at Whitby, the filmmaker captures the town from different vantage points. Scenes looking out at the harbour towards the sea are filmed as well as looking back on the town with the countryside visible in the background. Boats sit in the sand at low tide. There is brief footage of an older couple who stop for a cup of coffee from a roadside vendor. This is followed by further footage of Whitby, possibly filmed from the Abbey.
A woman gets out of a car, there is a shot of the older man previously featured, and the Grand Hotel at Scarborough can be seen at the edge of the cliff. There are shots of the coastline and castle in the distance as well as the hillside tram escalators in operation near the hotel. Boats fill the harbour, and there are shots of various businesses including Harbour Bar and Fletcher fish merchants. Traffic makes its way along the city streets, and different arcade amusements are featured. The south beach is crowded with people, and the film comes to an end with a couple playing golf at the top of the cliff.
