Title: Durham City
A juvenile jazz band marches along a busy main road. At the head of the group, a girl carries a mace and leads the band. In the main group, marchers carry a banner which reads, “New Blakelaw Juvenile Jazz Band 1973.” A number of cars are parked on the pavement to make way for the band as it makes its way along the road.
A group of sightseers are at the Old Fulling Mill near the river. A man carries a camera round his neck. A general view follows of the weir on the River Wear with the Old Fulling Mill in the background. Durham Cathedral can also be seen.
There is footage of some of the buildings along one of the old city centre streets. The filmmaker's wife, son and daughter Lorraine walk in the grounds of Durham Castle, then the film cuts to the cathedral, with a view of the cloisters followed by a view of the twin towers.
At the main door to the cathedral, with its famous door knocker, people enter or leave the building. One of the visitors takes a picture of the Sanctuary Knocker or hagoday.
Margaret Gill is seated on one of the benches in the grounds of the cathedral. She smiles for the camera.
