The film begins with a view of a number of marine radar antenna on a mast of the Manchester Progress. General views of the deck of the cargo ship at sea. A gull flies alongside the ship. In the distance is a lighthouse. General view of the ships' compass.
The film cuts to the wheelhouse where the Quartermaster is seated beside the ships' wheel which is of a car steering wheel shape. There are views of flashing lights on a control deck, which form part of the ships' ‘data logger’. The film ends showing a Tees Towing Company tugboat travelling alongside.
