A home movie made by Chris Lawson capturing a hockey match taking place near Rossall private school in Fleetwood, Lancashire and a family holiday to Bavington in Northumberland.
The film opens with a schoolboys hockey match taking on a beach in rather wet conditions. A number of spectators watch the progress of the match. Some static shots of a large expanse of beach, probably not far from Rossall school which is near the coast just north of Blackpool. The camera pans left to right showing general views of the landscape, with buildings appearing on the far shore, finally panning round to the hockey match.
The film cuts to a gathering of four children at the door of a house. One of the girls carries a young child, the eldest boy seems to have is finger on the doorbell.
A close up follows of the young boy now standing on his own. He runs past the camera to a patch of grass nearby. The older boy attempts to stop him running any further. The two girls watch from the doorway. A man approaches then and the film cuts to the exterior of a stone built house.
Two men sit behind a white picket type fence near to a porch; the film cuts back to the small boy and older girl. They are playing with a rope. The girl holds one end of the rope, the little boy holds the rope about half way along its length. The rope is dropped leaving the little boy holding it. The two girls wander off and the boys runs away from the camera. The film cuts to one of the girls holding the rope aloft, the little boy is frustrated in his attempts to hold it again.
The film cuts to the little boy again as in front of the camera, he climbs onto a patch of raised grass next to a rough driveway. One of the girls helps him to his feet, and he walks towards the camera.
The film cuts to an older man, waving to someone from a nearby gate. The film briefly cuts back to one of the older girls who plays with the little boy. The film cuts back to men chatting at the wooden gate. The film cuts to two boys, one climbs on to a stone wall, in his hand a hammer. The other holds a post next to the wall and on the post a notice reads 'Claywalls'.
The film ends as the notice is removed, while the boy on the wall hammers the top of the post into the ground while his friend holds it straight.
