A home movie by Chris Lawson captures family holiday activities at Sandsend near Whitby. The film incudes views of both of the nearby town of Whitby as well as the river Esk.
The film begins with a over the sea towards the cliffs at Sandsend. From a promenade a view of the beach below. The camera pans left to show rough seas, and waves crashing onto shore, views follow of the cliffs shown at the beginning of the film.
The film cuts to a high angle view of a pier with a small coastal light at the end of it. The camera pans left along its length as waves crash over the base of the pier.
A high angle view shows people standing on bench seats to look over a wall to get better view of the stormy sea. Another shot follows of the pier light from a different angle on the promenade. The camera chases waves along the base of the pier.
A long view shows St Mary's Church and the abbey on Whitby's East Cliff. The camera pans right looking up river to Whitby town, and pans round to show West Cliff.
The film cuts to a riverside view of a cafe. The camera moves away from the cafe as the boat the cameraman is on, runs down river showing tables with small umbrellas in a garden.
A close up follows of a small boy who turns away from the camera, then turns back again. The film ends with a high angle view showing the river Esk winding its way to Whitby in the distance, and finally the camera pans right showing the abbey and church bathed in very hazy sunshine.
