Tyne Tees Television Newsview magazine interview with a young American man and woman hitchhiking in the North East to save money. The item was originally broadcast on 27 August 1964.
A reporter (not seen) interviews a young American man and woman who are hitchhiking at the roadside. They have been in Europe for 10 weeks, but their money has run out. The ten week holiday has cost £330. They have been in Britain for two weeks. The American man thinks the British people are the friendliest in the world and he is coping alright with the language and accents, although they didn’t know what a lorry was until they came to England and had to hitch. The man prefers American women to English. But then he says he hasn't had any experience of dating English women. The woman likes British men compared to those on the Continent, as they are not so "forward", more reserved and polite. She says that she feels safe in England. The reporter then offers them a lift in his car.
