Members of the Darlington Cine Club set up lights inside a darkened room. The door on the side of a piece of electrical equipment or machinery is open, technicians speak with members of the film crew about what this piece does.
A cameraman works with the lighting technicians to move the lights into position in readiness to shot. Technicians stand beside the generator; work goes on around to prepare the shot. Someone goes up in a cherry picker. Now on a raised platform the camera downward on the generator below. Again, a technician gives details of what the machine is doing while nearby Peter Dobing holds a film light, and a colleague adjusts the filter on another lamp.
A man comes through a door into a room and shakes hands with another who comes from behind the camera. Other men and women come in. Beside a table a woman in a pink cardigan takes off her coat, around her members of club are chatting.
The chatting continues as an 8mm projector is set up in readiness to screen a film. The film changes to show a cinecamera set up to shoot the projector and those in the room now standing behind it. Nearby a man flicking through a magazine.
Around the room people go about their tasks with one man winding up a sound cable and the woman in the pink cardigan speaking with another man about a script. Around the room people chat over cups of tea or coffee which are being made on a table nearby.
The woman in the pink cardigan takes a booklet out of her handbag and places her bag on a table. The camera focuses in on a £10 note protruding from the top. She speaks with another man about the booklet while another man looks around the room before beginning to steal the handbag. The director calls cut to reveal the whole sequence is just part of his film.
A woman from BBC Radio Cleveland makes a speech to members of the club about being a print and radio journalist. The film ends on her finishing and those in the room applaud.
