An amateur film produced by Alan Quinn that focuses on St Anne’s Catholic Church on Half Fields Road in the village of Winlaton Mill. The film features a service taking place and two priests speaking with their parishioners outside the church. The film also features two children playing in a playground and a phantom car ride through the local countryside. The final part of the film shows two gravestones in a cemetery with three men watching over them.
The film begins with views of the exterior of St Anne’s Catholic Church and clergy house nearby. Two mannequins of shrouded women stand beside a cross, behind them the Lourdes Grotto in honour of Rev. Daniel Costar, the founding parish priest.
A man and young girl come along Commercial Street before heading inside the church. Inside views follow of a service taking place including the priest giving a sermon [out of focus]. Following the service the priest speaks with many of his parishioners as they come out of the church.
Additional views showing the exterior of the church including a large sign showing service times and holy days. A number of cars are parked in the driveway of the church, around them people stand chatting. The wind blows through the trees planted in the churchyard.
A sign on a wall reads ‘St Anne’s Church Winlaton. Mission of Renewal March 16th to March 23rd 1980’ is followed by a view of family groups getting out of their cars and walking into the church. A middle-aged man dressed in vestments speaks with members of a large crowd standing around outside the church.
The film changes to show two small children playing on a seesaw-swing in a playground. They jump off and begin spinning on a roundabout being pushed by a man. The children play on a swing before the film cuts to a phantom car ride through a rural location, into a town and then along a number of suburban streets. A road sign pointing towards Blaydon changes to show a tree lined path in a cemetery. A view of the grave of Hilda I Quinn changes to show a man writing notes over another grave. A second headstone is for a Cuthbert Gardener Stoddart. The film ends with two men looking down on the grave.
