Microphones are given to a number of children as they recite well known nursery rhymes. The film opens with a view of the double decker playbus, painted in an asortment of colours, parked on a street in Thornaby. On board the playbus a group of young girls play with sand which is kept in tubs.Two other children try out the short wooden slide that occupies another part of the bus. The young boy goes down the slide head first. Another youngster makes his way up a rope ladder hanging from the roof. A litte boy plays with an educational toy, tapping shapes into place with a hammer. One of the supervisors on the bus helps a small girl to read from a book, 'The Three Little Pigs'. Another girl tries her hand on a typewriter. The girl who was reading her book earlier, tries some drawing on a small blackboard. General views show chlidren playing with a variety of items including toy cars and a toy telephone. An external view follows of the Playbus in a new location, amongst relatively modern flats on an estate in the St Hilda's district of Middlesbrough. A supervisor holds a microphone towards a small boy as he reads his book. Some other children play in the sand tubs, and a boy and girl try out the slide. Wearing plastic pinafores to protect their clothing, the children paint pictures. Some of them get distracted by the presence of a camera. With one of the children holding a microphone, four of them sing the nursery rhyme 'Baa Baa Black Sheep'. The playbus is now in a new location at Hartlepool. A new group of children play with the toys and slide etc. on the bus. One of the children swings on a piece of rope hanging from the bus roof. A wooden mallet is used to hammer round pieces of wood through holes in a frame. A group of girls play with plasticine. Another exterior view of the bus in Elder Street, Middlesbrough. A young boy has found a rocking horse, as others walk past him to climb up the slide the wrong way. An energetic climb up the rope ladder by one youngster follows. A piece of cardboard serves as a door to a small space on part of the bus, which, for two children at least, serves as a den. A little girl sits cuddling a teddy bear which plays tunes. Another exterior view of the bus and a change of location, this time South Bank, Middlesbrough. One of the youngsters gives a solo rendition of 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' into the microphone. General views of the children playing or sitting staring at the camera follow. A young girl makes it to the top of the rope ladder, and then recites the nursery rhyme 'Humpty Dumpty' into a microphone. Another girl recites the rhyme 'Jack and Jill'. Other children hammer wooden dowels into the special frame seen earlier. A boy swings on a tyre attched to a piece of rope, other boys play in the sand tubs. General views follow of the children playing, then they try their hand at painting. Another change of location finds the bus on a housing estate in Hemlington parked behind a Cleveland County Libraries mobile library. Along with the children on the bus, a dog has joined them. A young boy holds a microphone and recites the rhyme 'Humpty Dumpty', another boy is not sure what to say, and another recites 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' General views follow showing the children playing under the watchful eye of two supervisors, more general views of the children ends the film.
