A home movie produced by John Scorer featuring a holiday with his mother to the village of Reeth in the Yorkshire Dales. John films his mother as they both walk they surrounding countryside and moorland visiting Gunnerside and Keld Waterfalls. The film also includes a visit to Richmond, Harrogate as well as Darlington in Country Durham to see Locomotion No. 1 on display at Banktop railway station. A woman walks through the village of Reeth towards the shop of J.B. Stubbs, a young man walks past the shop in the opposite direction. The woman waves at the camera as she passes, a cat sit looking at the camera suspiciously until a door is opened and it goes inside. A large country house on a hill surrounded by woodland, nearby a valley and River Swale. A woman rides past on horseback. The church of St Mary’s at Richmond changes to a Georgian terraced house with a blue door and decorative portcullis on Bargate. A woman stands smiling beside a white gate, the name ‘Jenny Hill’ written on it. An older woman crosses a footbridge carefully, she looks across a field of recently cut grass before continuing on with her walk. Various rural views including along the banks of the River Swale near Reeth. Colourful berries grow on a tree beside a stonewall. Traffic moves past the Royal Baths and more colourful flowerbeds alongside well-maintained grass areas. Three older women pose together beside a bench, colourful bushes along a suburban road. A British Rail poster promotes 150th Anniversary of passenger railways 1825 to 1975. On Banktop railway station at Darlington children climb around the plinth on which sits Locomotion No. 1 on display there. A steam train sits on a track beside a wall, a steam railway crane stands beside a set of signals. A small crowd gather around a vintage lorry, the hording along the side of the vehicle for ‘Tate & Lyle Packet Sugar’. A large medieval church or monastery and the older woman walking along a path through a wooded area. Along a road she herds some sheep. A man walks along the road changing to the woman posing beside a road sign on the edge of the village of Gunnerside. On a hillside overlooking the village she turns and looks back before continuing along a track and a path beside a stream. As she continues her walk, now with an umbrella up to protect her from the sun, views of the surrounding countryside and green berries growing on trees. On a nearby hillside a herd of sheep move together across a field, along a road a car waits as two shepherds with their sheepdog’s herd sheep into a field. The woman walks across moorland and through blossoming purple heather passing some sheep. She picks some of the heather holding it up for the camera. Sitting in the heather she finishes a bottle of liquid and continues her walk along a track. A caravan in a field and views of a stream and plants and shrubs along and around it.
