The second of five short amateur film produced by Donald Oates, a Civil Engineer for Newcastle, and Northumberland County Council, showing construction of the A1058 Coast Road between Jesmond in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Tynemouth. In this film construction work taking place around the Battle Hill area of Wallsend with the new road being constructed under an existing one which passes around a roundabout and the A186 Station Road.
A deep trench has been dug beside a row of houses, traffic moves along a nearby road. Metal drums down the middle of the road have been installed with traffic moving along the right site, heavy machinery parked on the other.
The new road under construction passes under a bridge, beside which houses are built. A car drives past along the existing road. A lorry followed by a car drive along one of a two-lane highway, the other lane not finished. Rubble and earth cover the ground near a row of houses that forms part of a new off-ram leading to the bridge seen previous in the near distance. Nearby more earth and rubble forming part of another part of the highway construction site.
A partially completed roadway leads towards barriers in the distance. A man walks along a path between a construction site on his left and the existing road on the right. Metal drums act as a barrier between pedestrians and the traffic. Beside a row of bungalows a road the ground has been flattened, a shed and timber are nearby.
Blank
A roundabout near houses leads to an off-ramp down onto the highway construction site below. A boy runs along the road beside a barrier, on the other side a road along which cars come. A row of shops nearby, the road in front of them taken up. A woman pushes a pram along the road passing various dug up section of earth surrounded by metal drums acting as barriers. Traffic continues to travel around these roads.
The film ends along another road beside an embankment a sign in red reads ‘Reduce Speed Now’.
