An amateur film that records various streets scenes around the city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne during a time of change. As well as traffic and pedestrians making their way around the city, the film also captures construction work believed showing new central library on Bridge Street. The film ends with views across the city skyline filmed from a roof.
Traffic moves along a busy Newcastle street passing traditional brick-built buildings, in the near distance a concrete building. At a road junction in the city a policeman directs traffic, in the distance the spire of All Saints Church on Low Pilgrim Street. Red buses travel along the Great North Road passing the church of St Thomas the Martyr and the Civic Centre. On the other side of the road the Hancock Museum.
Cars are parked in a large piece of waste ground, in the distance a newly constructed shopping centre. Three high-rise apartment blocks in the background.
Traffic including double-decker buses come along Northumberland Street crossing into Pilgrim Street. Construction work on the new central library around New Bridge Street with both traffic and pedestrians needing to take diversions.
From an upstairs window pedestrians and traffic move along a busy shopping street. Traffic and pedestrians walk along Pilgrim Street. Again, from an upstairs window looking down onto the intersection of Pilgrim, New Bridge, Blackett and Northumberland streets.
Traffic moves along Grey Street, in the near distance the Newcastle Theatre Royal. From an upstairs window Eldon Square below, beside it a piece of waste ground and car park. The Cathedral Church of St Nicholas at the intersection of St Nicholas Street and Neville Street, a man crossings the road walking along Neville Street towards Swan House in the near distance.
Pedestrians and traffic travel along Newgate Street towards Bigg Market passing the Newgate Shopping Centre. They walk or drive along Grainger Street with Grainger Market and Grey’s Monument in the distance.
From a roof the camera pans across the Newcastle skyline with the trees in Eldon Square below, a crane working at a construction site and the spire of The Cathedral Church of St Nicholas. Traffic crosses the Tyne Bridge, the Swing and High-Level bridges next to it. Below traffic moves along busy streets and construction work continues on the central library.
