This home movie produced by Christine Hanley features residents of Sedgefield taking part in the annual Shrove Tuesday football match in the streets around St Edmund’s Church as well as a motorised train travelling along Redcar beach. The film includes a number of sequences featuring Christine’s daughter Jacky as a small child either playing around the family home at Layton House Farm near Sedgefield or on picnics and excursions with family and friends.
The film opens on three kittens in a field eating from a plate followed by them playing with a cardboard box nearby. The film changes to show a group of people getting into a car followed by three Siamese cats walking up to someone in the snow looking for food.
The film cuts to the beach at Redcar where two people on horseback ride past in one direction as a motorised ‘train’ speeds past in the other. A man and toddler walk towards the shoreline and paddle in the sea.
A family enjoy a picnic near Carlton in North Yorkshire while a toddler walks carefully on the grass. A glider flies overhead and the family go for a walk.
In a garden a young girl plays in an inflatable swimming pool followed by her having a bath which has been set up on a table inside a house.
The film changes to show two women walking around the gardens of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire followed by a couple walking towards then past the camera. In the background a large crowd walk along a pier with a lighthouse at the end.
Around St Edmund’s Church in Sedgefield local people take part in the annual Shrove Tuesday football match. Crowds of people race up and down Front Street and Rectory Row chasing after the ball often in front of traffic.
The film cuts to a garden where a baby in a pram plays with a mobile followed by views of the child playing on the grass. A dog comes over and sits beside the youngster. The film cuts to show the child in a pushchair with a man standing beside it, followed by the two of them relaxing and playing together on a piece on a sloped grass.
An open-top Land Rover drives up and across a number of steep sandy banks. Young girls run through a field of sheep not far from farm buildings at Layton House Farm. A girl pushes a toy pram around a field then rides a tricycle.
The film changes to show a number of small children racing toward several parked cars. A picnic has been set up nearby and a number of adults sit or stand around a blanket eating and chatting. The adults then play a game of cricket nearby.
At an airport a family group make their way towards the terminal building where they are met by a man holding a small child. From a viewing area on the roof of the terminal building an airplane sits on the runway. Passengers disembark from a BKS aircraft, make their way across the runway and board a second airplane nearby before it taxis along the runway and takes off.
In a field two women sit on the grass chatting, while a small child stands nearby. They get up and race across the grass before playing a game with a ball. The film changes to show a baby in a field standing beside a small table near to Layton House Farm.
[Dark] A couple walk across the Giant’s Causeway at County Antrim in Northern Ireland. This is followed by a phantom car ride along a country road. A woman swims in a pool
The film cuts to show a cow and three calves in a field beside a lake where a man throws stones in the water. A boy rides along a country road on a donkey followed by a young girl leading another donkey along the road with a stick. Another phantom car ride follows travelling along a lake or shoreline. The film changes to show the wake of a ship filmed at sea, which comes into dock at Stanraer.
Back at Layton House Farm the small girl seen previously plays again in her paddling pool. The film changes to show her walking beside a pond with a young woman.
The final part of the film shows a bride on her wedding day walking from the church to the reception followed by a number of her guests. The film ends with some of the male guests being photographed outside the reception followed by people going inside.
