This amateur was made by a Wakefield-based businessman and is a travelogue of a family trip to Scotland. There are shots of Edinburgh, Rothsay, and many lakes and villages throughout the Scottish countryside.
The film opens with a car towing a caravan out of a driveway and then cuts to a shot of a garden with flowers planted into a design. Then there are a few shots of men playing bowls on a bowling green; there are a few people sitting on the benches surrounding the green.
A sign reads `Welcome to Scotland' and this is followed by shots of some caravans and cars parked on a camping site. The next section shows the centre of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street and the Walter Scott Memorial.
The family are on the walls of Edinburgh Castle, looking out over the city. Crowds of men, women and children walk around the streets and into the various buildings.
There is a shot of the Forth Bridge and then shots of several cars driving off a small ferry; the name of the ferry is Robert the Bruce.
There is a series of shots of the family in the countryside. They sit beside a very fast flowing river with shots of the open fields and mountains. There is a sign for `Tarbet' and the camera pans across to capture the lake with the mountains behind; a set of twins stand in shot.
Following this is a shot of the caravan and a tent set up at the edge of the lake with a boat sailing past in the distance. Then there are shots of some family members sitting on deck of the ferry and posing for the camera. There is a sequence of shots of passengers sitting on deck as well as the fields, the mountains in the distance and a couple of small islands in the lake.
Back on land there are shots of the country roads, sheep wandering about beside the road, views of the lake from high up on a hill and a fast flowing river. Docked a short way out in the water are several battle ships of different types. Then there are more shots of countryside and some of the family members.
The caravan and car drive off the ferry and this is followed by shots taken from a hill looking down across a valley with green fields. A woman and two children stand on a shingle beach and throw stones into a river.
In the next section are shots of a green park area with a pond and benches, a sports field and a playing ground. A group of children play on a slide and a roundabout.
There are a series of shots of buildings and gardens taken from around a small town. The woman and her two sons wander along through a forest area and then there are shots of a river, a forest area and an old building set alongside the forest.
There is a sign for `Seamill' followed by shots of a small town which overlooks a large lake. There are various shots of the lake and the surrounding countryside and then shots of a bigger and busier town which is also on a lake. There is a busy jetty with lots of boats and crowds of people taking trips on the lake in small ferries. There are views of the lake and the coastline taken from the deck of the ferry, as well as shots of the passengers on board. A boat bell is rung as the boat arrives into Rothsay.
There is a sequence of shots taken from the ferry, and they include a beach and a park in Rothsay, as well as many shots of the coastline. There are more shots of the passengers on board as well as seagulls that fly alongside the ferry.
In the next section is a series of shots of the water, seagulls flying beside the ferry and views of the coastline. Back on shore and lots of people have gathered near a guesthouse or hotel. Then are shots of a monument (with elephants on top), a village and some people thatching a cottage. There is a brief shot of a harbour and some fishermen docking and unloading their catches of fish.
Back on a ferry and there is a shot of a woman on deck and of the lakeshore and the mountains surrounding the lake. Some of the crew play a violin, a guitar and an accordion while the passengers watch them. The boat sails into a jetty and a sign reads `Tigh-na-Bruaigh (Kyles of Bute), Chalet Hotel, Babies and Children Welcome'. There is another sign for `Donoon' and the ship keeps sailing alongside the jetty and coastline.
There are shots from another small town including what looks like a castle turret standing on its own and lots of traffic. Then there is a sign which reads `Haste Ye Back to Scotland' and a final shot of a small, white building with a sign which reads `Over 10,000 marriages performed in this marriage room. Est 1830'.
