Title | Spring
The film opens with cars parked by a visitor centre near a river. Children are skimming stones with their grandfather and throwing sticks into the water. The family walk alongside the fast-flowing river before further shots of the visitor centre and some blackbirds that have made their nests in a tree.
Title | Summer
Shots of sailing boats on a lake or reservoir, with pedaloes lined up by the jetty. A cricket match is taking place and a batsman is given out by the umpire. Elsewhere, in a playground, there are children climbing on a frame and playing on monkey bars and a see-saw. One child eats an ice lolly and there are more shots of the kids playing on swings and a slide.
Title | Autumn
The leaves have turned brown and dropped off the trees as the grandmother and one of the children walk along a country lane. An anarchy symbol has been drawn on a rock in chalk as the child, wearing wellington boots, rummages among the leaves. He then swings on a branch and reads a comic.
Title | Winter
A man with a shovel clears deep snow from the path in front of a corrugated iron shed. He brushes the snow off his Peugeot car and the young boy throws a snowball. There is a faraway view over the countryside as a car comes down the hill. The boy shakes the snow from his willies, banging one of them against a wall. There is then a shot of a man carrying a bag up the snowy path and the child sliding on the ice, falling over in the process. The film comes to an end with the child pulling icicles from a wall and drinking water from an outside tap.
