The film opens with a long shot that shows a wide river and many of the competitors already in the water. The film then looks as though it has been speeded up as the rushing rapids and canoeists rush by.
They have to negotiate both jutting rocks and weave in and out of poles that have been put into the river bed. The film closes with many views of the competition; many supporters are seen standing on the shore.
