Title - the Anderton Shearer-Loader
Above ground, miners give a demonstration of how to assemble the Anderton Shearer from the start. As each piece is added a narrator explains in detail what its purpose is and how it should be fixed on.
Once the Shearer is assembled, it is switched on to show the movements and actions it should do while stripping coal.
Using the machine in a coal mine, the Shearer is shown stripping the wall face while spraying the coal with water before it hits the storage tubs. The narrator explains the factors which need to be taken into consideration before using the Shearer, such as ventilation and ease of supervision.
Explaining how to optimise the intake of coal by the shearer, the narrator advises on what lengths at a time the shearer should be stripping coal.
The film closes by following a conveyor belt carrying coal through a mine.
