This film is a railway film of the Settle - Carlisle Railway featuring the vast countryside and space surrounding the railway line as well as the different stops and towns along the way such as the Steamtown Railway Museum. Many stations and towns along the line appear in this film including Dewsbury, Saltaire, Keighley, and Skipton as well as other ones not clearly signed. Ribblehead is a moorland area at the very head of Ribblesdale, where the infant River Ribble has its source. Here the skyline is dominated by Yorkshire's Three Peaks: Whernside, Ingleborough and Penyghent. The area is most famous for the 24 arched Ribblehead Viaduct, which carries the world famous Settle - Carlisle railway line across the valley of Chapel le Dale. The film opens with a British Board of Censors old film title card and an AR production title. The Ribblehead Viaduct is under construction and workers can be seen repairing or remodelling different parts of the bridge. There are construction vehicles all around quite in contrast to the vast expanse of countryside also featured in the film. Nearby hikers are the only ones who can be seen besides the construction workers. There are portions of film of still photographs dealing with the history of the Viaduct, steam engines, and the Settle - Carlisle Railway. A steam engine goes though the countryside as onlookers stand on a short stone wall for a better view. At Dewsbury station, people can be seen waiting and walking along the train platforms. Also featured are different areas of the station including stopped trains, the car park, and the area around the outside of the station. Additionally, there are a few construction workers repairing tracks on one of the lines. Passengers board the train and it begins its journey on the Settle - Carlisle line. Most of the film is taken from the window of the moving train and captures the area of vast countryside through which the line passes. A vast majority of the film is of this part of the journey. While travelling, different stops along the line are featured as well as smaller towns passed along the way. The film closes with the passengers disembarking the train after a long journey through the countryside, and as the old steam engine train on which they had travelled pulls into the station, an new electric powered train pulls out. Additional information: The Settle - Carlisle Railway: [Starting out from the limestone uplands around Settle in the Yorkshire Dales, the line heads north up Ribblesdale between Yorkshire's famous Three Peaks - Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent. At the head of Ribblesdale the line climbs onto open moorland and across the 24 span viaduct at Ribblehead , before entering the one and a half miles of the Blea Moor Tunnel under the eastern flank of Whernside, Yorkshire's highest peak. The line emerges into Dentdale at Dent Head and then on to Garsdale Head before descending in to Mallerstang Common at the end of which the line passes by Kirkby Stephen, through Appleby-in-Westmorland and along the Eden Valley up to the northern terminus at Carlisle.]
