This film is an ITN Newsreel that captures scenes of the prison riot in Hull. The film opens with shots of male prisoners sitting and standing on the roof of the prison. The men are wearing a variety of coats, hats, masks and blankets and they are sitting beside a small fire. There is another shot of prisoners on another section of roof; they too are wearing masks and helmets and some of them are carrying long rods. In the next scene groups of police officers walk along a road and in through the prison gates; behind them a tank drives down the road and turns into the prison entrance. Police officers in riot gear walk along behind it. Back up on the roof a prisoner climbs up a section of it and starts pulling the tiles off. There are shots of the length of the prison roof and of the prisoners sitting on various sections of it. ITV new reader, Martin Lewis, gives a news report from outside of the prison.
