A film by Eric Bolderson of his family's holiday at Butlins in Ayr including the journey there and back to Castleford.
The film opens with the family's car, a Rover (No. plate RUM 382), into which get Mr and Mrs Bolderson, Eric and Irene, and their daughter Janet. The film follows the journey from the car through villages and countryside. They finally arrive at the holiday camp and the voiceover informs "here we are arriving at Butlins at Ayr in Scotland; from the top of the drive we can see the sea." As they get out of the car holiday makers are playing on the putting green. There is a play area where children play on swings, a 'witch's hat' and a roundabout. Next to this are tennis courts. The mother and daughter sit by the pool on deckchairs where people are swimming. Janet points to herself in a photo of a baby beauty contest, and then gets into a small shallow pool with a large fountain and paddles. The indoor pool is shown, many boys swim and play. The film returns to the outside ground and the girl runs about by some flowers and stops on the grass to pick up daisies.
Boys are seen playing football on a grey overcast day; the sea can be seen in the background. The girl takes a ride on one of the toy trains in the camp which rides around a large boating lake. The family then go outside the camp and visit Robbie Burns' house, showing the admission prices of 6d. Eric walks across a road holding Janet's hand, followed by Irene and Janet walking around the landscaped gardens.
On their journey home they stop off at Gretna Green. A man in traditional dress plays a bagpipe near the chapel and the blacksmiths forge. Irene takes over the narration as they continue their journey home, stopping off at Lake Ullswater and Lake Windermere, where Janet feeds the swans. They carry on through Kendal and the Yorkshire dales towards Skipton on the A65. The film ends as they come into Leeds.
