Summary The second of two home movies produced by John Scott Forsyth of a visit to Kenya to visit the family of his son-in-law who own a coffee plantation near Kitale. In this reel the family cross the Mtwapa Creek by ferry before visiting the ruins of Gedi and swimming in the Indian Ocean. Men play golf on a course build in the desert bush and wife Joanna, youngest son Richard and daughter Rosemary visit several local towns and market, exploring the wilderness as well as relaxing beside swimming pools or in large ornate gardens build on various estates. |
Description
The second of two home movies produced by John Scott Forsyth of a visit to Kenya to visit the family of his son-in-law who own a coffee plantation near Kitale. In this reel the family cross the Mtwapa Creek by ferry before visiting the ruins of Gedi and swimming in the Indian Ocean. Men play golf on a course build in the desert bush and wife Joanna, youngest son Richard and daughter Rosemary visit several local towns and market, exploring the wilderness as well as relaxing beside swimming...

Rosemary and Joanna walk past a sign that reads ‘Tsavo Inn’, traffic drives past them as they and Richard walk along a road. In a village a boy uses a machete to cut open a coconut, Richard, and Nick drinks the milk.
Richard and other swimmers enjoy swimming and diving into a pool. Rosemary, Joanna and Richard look around a large house, they sit together on a bench along with Nick. The family walk through a town with large colonial buildings, a large spider in its web. They crowd around market stalls selling local handicrafts. Three men sit on stools carving animals from wood. Ships docked at a large seaport changes to a stall selling colourful fruits.
A phantom car ride changes to Joanna looking a sign for the Mtwapa Ferry. The ferry carries an estate car across Mtwapa Creek. Women with baskets on their heads approach the landing, nearby a group of local men pull on a rope, part of the ferry.
A long sandy beach, in the distance people swimming in the surf of the Indian Ocean. On a veranda the family sit around a table eating a meal. A sign for the ‘Gedi National Park’ changes to show a man walking along a path inside the ruins of Gedi.
On a course in the bush a man plays a round of golf, a local man acts as a caddy. Richard, Rosemary and Joanna sit relaxing in the shade of the veranda seen previously.
Joanna and Rosemary walk past in bathing costumes, Joanna takes a shower. Richard and Nick walk beside a pier and canoes looking out to sea. The family play around in the surf, Rosemary has a body-board which she and Richard use to surf the waves. Richard and Nick play a round of crazy-golf, Richard dives into a nearby swimming pool. A group walks along the beach watching local fishermen use nets to catch fish in the surf.
On a boat at sea Richard goes fishing changing to him back on the beach bodyboarding. A slow-worm crawls across a wall changes to Richard and Joanna standing at a local school of clinic where a group of children are sitting in a line.
A phantom car ride along a straight road passes an elephant. The family walk along a path towards a waterfall. They go for a walk-through wood changing to a man in a safari-suit talking to them,
Several four-wheeled vehicles are parked outside a whitewashed building, the man seen previously in the safari-suit is assisting with the packing. In the garden of a house Richard watches a second boy fill a plastic bag with water. In a field beside a road a man looks over a prickly tree or bush. A phantom car ride changes to Rosemary and Nick walking through a desert location. The men go skinny-dipping in a watering hole.
Another phantom car ride, in the distance mountains. A giraffe races across a dusty plain. The group stands atop a hill beside a sign which points towards various locations around the world. They look across the vast landscape, nearby a watchtower.
On a farm a local man speaks with the group and shows them around a number of fields growing various vegetables. In another field a herd of cattle.
Richard and another child sit and lay in a bed. Outside on a veranda a family group sit chatting. Inside Joanna and another couple look over a series of paintings set up on easels. General views of a large house and estate with cattle and other animals passing nearby. Joanna is given a tour of the gardens. Two boys fence on the lawn watched by Richard who then puts on a fencing mask and has a go.
The family are given a tour of a factory or warehouse where coffee beans are being loaded into sacks. In larger factory unit bean are being processed. In an office Nick sits with his feet up on the desk reading a newspaper, around him a group chats over cups of tea or coffee.
On a street corner Joanna looks into a sack containing various moving snakes. Beside a wooded area Joanna and Richard watch a man possibly produce charcoal using a large earthen-covered oven.
A road sign changes to Nick speaking with a local man who is herding cattle, he has a stick which he waves around in the air. Richard and Nick push the estate car along a road changes to a swimming pool in the grounds of a large house. Richard comes down a slide into the water.
Out in the bush a herd of animal’s race across the distance landscape changes to a four men playing another a round of golf on a course build in the bush. The men walk past large metal piping, possibly part of the coffee plantation, and drive across a desert landscape.
Richard dives into a swimming pool, crowds of peoples sit around on tables nearby. An airplane on the runway and Richard making his way toward it.
