A production of ‘Robinson Crusoe’ put on by the Whitley Bay Pantomime Society taking place at the Playhouse Whitley Bay staring Joanna Riley as ‘Robinson’, Valerie Hopper as ‘Captain’ and Len Hayden as the ‘Pirate Captain’ with Jean Jackson as the ‘Good Fairy’ and Peter Bodin as ‘Davy Jones’.

A production of ‘Robinson Crusoe’ put on by the Whitley Bay Pantomime Society taking place at the Playhouse Whitley Bay staring Joanna Riley as ‘Robinson’, Valerie Hopper as ‘Captain’ and Len Hayden as the ‘Pirate Captain’ with Jean Jackson as the ‘Good Fairy’ and Peter Bodin as ‘Davy Jones’.
A darkened auditorium with music coming from the orchestra pit. The ‘Good Fairy’ comes onto the stage to address the audience, at the other end of the stage ‘Davy Jones’ appears to the boos of the audience. The curtain rises for the first of several song and dance routines. Rowland Maughan as ‘Billy Crusoe’ come forward to address the audience, he walks out into the audience to sing a song before heading back onto the stage to acknowledges some of the groups in the audience and to wish others a happy birthday. The production continues and includes a UV underwater scene featuring ‘Billy Crusoe’ dressed as a very luminous green octopus.
During the second half the production stops so that more birthday wishes can be given by the pantomime ‘Dame’ played by Kevyn Gill(?). He is joined by Rowland Maughan and Len Hayden for a comedy routines featuring the three of the trying to wallpaper a wall. The production continues.
Following the final song and dance routine the curtains close but Rowland Maughan returns to the stage to thank the orchestra for their work during the performance. He then invites six children onto the stage to sing along with him ‘Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer Katzenellenbogen’. He wonders into the into the audience to invite another little girl back onto the stage. They sing again after which they are asked what they got for Christmas. Again, Rowland wonders into the audience to get them to sing along with him; the children leave the stage and Rowland leaves at the end of the song.
The curtain is raised once more for a final dance number after which the full cast come out to take a bow to the audience and to sing one final song. Everyone wave as the curtain is lowered and raised a few times. The final dance sequence and curtain call is repeated after which Rowland Maughan comes forward to thanks some of the cast and those behind the scenes, bouquets are presented. Everyone in the cast and chorus sing a final song as the curtain comes down for the final time.
