A production of ‘Robinson Crusoe’ put on by the Whitley Bay Pantomime Society taking place at the Playhouse Whitley Bay staring Lilian Wilson as ‘Billy Crusoe’, Kathryn Flinn as ‘Polly Perkins’ and Sandra Laidler as ‘Robinson’. In a puff of smoke Valarie Harper as the ‘Fairy’ appears on stage to address the audience. On the other side of the stage dressed in green and carrying a trident ‘Davy Jones’. They leave the stage; the curtain goes up for the first of several song and dance routines. The production continues with several comedy routines as well as more dancing from performers of various ages. G22
Following the final routine Kevyn Gill as the ‘Dame’ returns to the stage singing the nursey rhyme ‘Three Little Fishes’. He makes several announcements as well as thanks some of the production’s sponsors. Six birthday boys and girls are invited onto the stage and are interviewed before joining the ‘Dame’ in on another rendition of ‘Three Little Fishes. The children are given gifts as they leave the stage as the ‘Dame’ waves and exits as well.
The curtain is raised once more for a final dance number after which the full cast come out to take a bow to the audience and to sing one final song. They wave as the curtain is lowered and raised a few times. Another ‘Dame’ comes forward to introduce Rowland Maughan onto the stage, he thank both the cast and those who work behind the scenes. Raymond Hammond, Chairman of the society comes out and presents a bouquet four women in the company. The production over the curtain comes down and people begin to leave the theatre.
