Every year there is a St. George's Day Scout Parade in York. This film contains footage of the parade along its route as well as other scouting events such as the St. Thomas' Summer Fete York and Scout Camp.
The film opens at Clifford's Tower in York where Scouts, Guides, Brownies and Cubs line up ready to process through the city. The procession begins, heading around the York Mister and near St. William's College. They continue down Parliament Street to return to Clifford's Tower. Some of the participants carry the both St. George's and the Union Jack flags.
Next is a summer fete that is organised by the Scouts. At a residential park, fete stalls have been set up selling various goods such as bric-a-brac, cakes and one has a tombola with various prizes displayed. Games are played and children take turns on a trampoline.
Following the fete, the Scouts take a holiday to the beach. The boys set up their tents at the campsite heading off to a beach to play and swim. There is also a shot of a Union Jack flag that they have hoisted up a mask as all Scouts do on their trips. Back at the campsite, some members wash up and prepare food while others enjoy their time in the outdoors.
The final section of the film documents the Brownies' annual trip to an outdoor activity site to the north of the city on May 8th, 1976.
The film opens on a sunny day at the Brownie headquarters- which doubles as the York Scout Centre in Heworth. A coach is parked at the side of the road, and the girls are in their uniforms. Their parents stand by as suitcases are loaded in the boot. The girls then board the coach which leaves the city for the York Scout Centre. The outdoor activity site is set in a woodland area on the outskirts of York. The girls leave the coach and enter the chalet where they will stay.
Some of the girls hang washing out on the line. They then play ball games before stopping for refreshments. They then go for a woodland walk. The film then cuts to interior scenes to show the girls eating their dinner at tables, and after which, washing their plates. They do the same to the tea-towels which are hung on a washing line. Dancing outside the chalet takes place before the girls then run back inside. One Brownie celebrates her birthday on the trip. The film closes with her blowing out the candles on her birthday cake.
