This film documents the Yorks Heworth Brownies’ annual trip to the village of Burnsall, just north of the city.

The film opens at the dining room of the filmmaker and shows his wife, the groups Brown Owl preparing for the trip. The house is full of food provisions that take up space in both the kitchen and hall. Exterior scenes then show the drive also piled with things that are for the trip.

Brown Owl’s Dining Room
The film opens at the dining room of the filmmaker and shows his wife, the groups Brown Owl preparing for the trip. The house is full of food provisions that take up space in both the kitchen and hall. Exterior scenes then show the drive also piled with things that are for the trip.
Title – Church Hall
The Brownies are waiting with their families, ready to get onto the coach and go on their trip. The girls get onto the coach and take their seats. Their families wave goodbye as the coach drives away. The Brownies arrive at the village of Burnsall. They exit the coach and go into the local hall that will be converted into the living quarters for the next few days. Forming a human chain, the girls help to unload the coach and move the bags into the hall.
Title – Brown Owl Spills the Milk
The Brown Owl clears the puddle in the corridor. The girls are then seen exiting the hall in their uniforms and go over to the river where they picnic on the grass. They then take part in running races. The film then cuts back to the hall to show them getting their beds out.
Title - Chips, fish fingers and beans … rice pudding and fruit.
In the Dining area of the hall the girls ready themselves for dinner. Brown Owl and some of the girls serve through a hatch, one Brownie has the job of taking the plates full of food to the girls sitting at the tables. After they have eaten they then join in to wash up the plates and dishes.

Interior scenes show the girls up, dressed in uniforms and ready for the day.

Brown Owl stands over a box with some colourful crafts in. Exterior shots then show a small group of girls go shopping at the village shop before returning to the hall for refreshments.
Title - Brownie made biscuits
At a table Brown Owl plates some biscuits up from tins and others help wrap them. The brownies go into the village and give them as gifts to the people who live there. As they go around the houses they chat to the different people. Later they play at the grass area by the river before going off into the countryside for a walk. They end up at a lake where they go into the shallows with wellington boots and small fishing nets and sweep them around for any creatures-their catches are put in buckets and shown in close up.

The film closes with the Brownies return to York to be greeted by their parents who hug them and smile.
