This film is part of a three film collection focusing on racing driver Trevor Twaites, documenting races he participated in. All of the films within this collection were commissioned on behalf of the British Racing & Sports Car Club (Northern centre).
In terms of visual composition, the camera throughout the collection is positioned at eye level with the race track, thus the filmmaker is able to replicate the type shots a professional television company might produce, which is thanks to unrestricted access to the racetrack and behind the scenes areas.
The film opens with a man performing tricks on a motorised go-kart in a race track car park. The shot that follows is of a man meticulously cleaning a race car. Mechanics then check the engine of the race car, before Trevor gets into the formula one style race car. A mechanic smiles at the camera, then the filmmaker cuts to the race track starting grid. Other racing cars are lined up on the grid, and once they are all in place, the race begins. Next are shots of cars speeding round various corners and bends of the race track.
A driver pulls into the pit lane. Then in a race track admin office, two women sort papers and count money. The next shot shows several different race cars (all of different classes) parked in a field, and two men stand next to them, talking. All cars have the same decal, which reads 'Chris Meeh driving for Princess lta'. Next, the filmmaker captures a man and woman riding a moped around the race track car park, the man laughs and jokes.
Another race is underway; the cars features in said race are of a different class, and clearly less powerful. Various shots show the cars going round the race course, and there are frequent glimpses of 'Shell' advertising. Following this sequence a new race starts. This time the race cars are scaled down versions of formula one cars. The filmmaker captures several snippets of the race, which show the cars speeding through chicanes and around corners. The final shot of the race shows numerous cars lined up on the grid preparing for a race to start.

A film of Yorkshire racing car driver Trevor Twaites made by Trevor’s friend, fellow racer and filmmaker George Duncan of Leeds at the Rufforth circuit, just west of York. Trevor is driving a newly built Chevrolet Lola T330 in its first competitive year, before going on to many successes. Trevor might be racing in the Formula Libre race, while other races feature converted road cars, Mark I Escorts and Mini Coopers, possibly in an RAC York branch Battle of Britain race. This film is part of a collection of motor racing films focusing on Twaites. They were made by Duncan for the British Racing & Sports Car Club. They also feature Elvington and Croft circuits. Trevor Twaites raced in the 1960s and 70s giving up racing in 1975 to take over his father’s Woodkirk Garage on Dewsbury Road, Morley. Like other circuits Rufforth was on the site of a former airfield built during the war, opening in 1959 and closing in 1978. Twaites won the RAC Sports Car Championship in 1970 and entered four races in the Rothmans 5000 in 1973, gaining no points. A restored T330 HU6, which was shared with Brendan McInerny, raced as recently as August 2015. Twaites died in 2010 at the relatively early age of 66. |
