This film documents the aftermath of a house explosion in the city of Wakefield, paying particular attention to the emergency services handling of the operation. The film shows the severe structural damage to the house, as well as capturing a man who was injured in the blast. The film is an interesting chronicle of this extraordinarily unusual incident.
The film opens on a street in Wakefield, as police squad cars block off a street and a constable diverts traffic away from the area. The filmmaker zooms in towards the squad car to show an officer wearing reflective jacket, talking into the car radio. Cones are then shown laid out on another street, while emergency services can be seen in the background.
A photographer wearing a hard hat talks to an officer in a squad car, before moving off, and a close of the officers car shows a sign on its roof that reads 'Police control post'. Officers, one of which wears a jacket that reads 'Police incident officer', are then shown talking to a bespectacled man in a grey trench coat, and as the filmmaker zooms out, the terraced house where the explosion occurred can been seen; a wall has been ripped away and the first floor ceiling has collapsed. Officers then take statements from firemen, who stand by a fire truck.
The filmmaker then captures the firemen sifting through the rubble. Shots then show a doctors case on the floor beside a car and several ambulances parked along the street. Shots then capture the damage to the rear of the building; the next door neighbour's windows have been blown out, and the actual rear wall of the house has been completely torn away. Shots show other damage, which includes smashed car windows and debris stuck in several trees. The filmmaker then gets close to the house and shows the damage to the interior, which is substantial as the house is little more than a shell.
Emergency crews and photographers gather round an injured man on a stretcher. Fireman and ambulance crews wheel the man towards the ambulance, and the filmmaker gets a close up of the man's face, which shows a large gash across his temple. The man is then lifted into the back of an ambulance and an officer can be seen amongst the group taking notes. More shots capture a large crowd gathered round the back of the house, as firemen continue to work through the house. An ambulance pulls away and heads off down a street.
The final sequence continues to capture the scenes around the house; officers patrol the area - redirecting traffic - and the filmmaker gets more shots of the house and surrounding streets. The final shot shows a senior police officer talking to members of press.
