This is a film of a family from Wombwell near Barnsley, at home and having a day at the beach.
The film opens showing a chassis of a car in a driveway in front of a garage. A boy in a red top plays with the steering wheel. His father puts a seat on the chassis, and he gets in with his son and his wife. They push the chassis up a slight incline and let it roll down with the father at the wheel. On the second time of doing this a woman arrives on a bicycle. The film then shows the finished car, which might be a customised Ford Popular painted blue and made into a convertible (reg. HKH851).
The film switches to a funfair at night, with a carousel and big wheel. A brewer's dray carrying barrels of beer is drawn by shire horses down a street. The there is a woman inside a tent and man putting on swimming trunks before going onto the beach. In the distance a plane comes in to land. Two women and a man play with a beach ball on the sand and paddle in the sea. The man gives one of the women a piggyback. They then go down a slide in an open air swimming pool where they swim before returning to the beach, with people playing in the waves and a man playing on a lido.
The family are then seen in close-up relaxing on the beach. The film returns to the funfair at night where there are lights for 'Pleasure Beach'. Then some people are walking near a boat in harbour and playing a game with rackets before again returning to the beach. A car is parked outside a corner shop next to a pile of rubble. Some workmen are building a house. A woman is digging the garden in a new housing development. Another woman plays with an Alsatian. The shop now has a wall built next to it, and there is more building work taking place before the film shows the finished building of a single storey shop. A bulldozer is clearing some space near houses.
Two Alsatians are play fighting and running in a field. The film then shows a new suburban housing estate, covered in snow, before returning to the summer time with two men loading a canoe onto the roof-rack of a Ford Anglia. Inside the house two women are putting washing through a mangle. A woman tends to the flowers in the front garden and picks some to shows to others. There is more film of houses being built in the area, with the foundations being laid down.
The film switches to a dining table laid for a buffet with celebration cards on the piano. A group of people are gathered for a party, with a man sitting on the floor strumming a guitar. People are sitting around the decorated room in chairs. Two women dance together and then others join in as the film comes to an end.
