This film, which is part of the vast C.H. Wood collection, captures a hill climbing competition that takes place in Bradford and is attended by hundreds of spectators.
The film begins with a shot of a large crowd of spectators standing behind a rope at the side of a rocky road watching what is going on out of shot. Following this is a shot taken from the top of the hill looking down at a rider who makes his way along the rock strewn track. The next shot is taken from the bottom of the hill looking up at the finishing post; this angle highlights how steep the hill is.
There are more shots taken from the top of the hill looking down and from the bottom of the hill looking up. Both cars and motorbikes attempt the climb to the top. Some of the cars get stuck half way up and have to be helped along by men with wooden wedges, which they push under the wheels of the car. There is a shot of some of the spectators, including a couple of women dressed in dress hats, coats and fur scarves.
