This film is made by pupils at Newman School, which is a special school for students with physical disabilities and medical conditions based in Rotherham. This film was produced by media students as a document of their filmmaking portfolio. Initially the scheme is introduced by staff and students, followed by exerts from each of their commissions.
The film opens in room in Haworth school. A student sits framed in an interview style position with an old film projector behind him. He states that, "Before, if you wanted to do film work, you had to travel to another school." The film then cuts to another male student, this time in a park, and he continues the previous student's sentiments by saying, "Now people come to us to make films." A student in a wheelchair then remarks to camera that "over this past year, we (Newman school) have been approached by four organisations who wanted to use our expertise in film making".
The first company that approached the school is illustrated by a shot of a workshop tacking place; students kneeling on mats before an instruction, with the voice over stating that this was a promo movie for a 'Liquid science' event. The second event is introduced by a female student, who says that a holiday company on the Costa Brava wanted a film to go on their website, and there are shots of people enjoying a continental breakfast in a hotel. The third commission was for a video demonstrating classroom 'flashpoints' for 'Climb shoulders and behavioural support', and this is exemplified by a shot of an aggravated special needs student in a classroom. The fourth was a music video for a musician John Rowley, and a cut is made to show him playing a set.
Following this is a brief interview with Simon, who helps with the media aspect of their work. He relates his admiration for the student, saying that they have a fantastic body of work, and many of the students are now teaching him new skills. A new segment is then introduced by two students, which showcases the four previously mentioned films in more detail.
Title - Costa Brava
Title - Welcome to 'Let's go Costa Brava!'
Shots show exterior views of the accommodation and a group view of some of the staff. A brief sequence then captures a disable child being helped into the sea with assistance from a group of people.
Title - Liquid.
At an indoor event, an interview with a senior member of the 'Liquid science' group states that these events are to demonstrate to children how science and technology work. A teacher then states that he is there to teach kids about the science of sound using bongo drums to explain vibrations, amplitude, and frequency.
Title - Teacher support.
In a playground, a male and a female student argue over a message sent on the social networking site, 'Bebo'.
Title - Stage backdrops.
Again there is a shot of John Rowley playing his music on stage and there is a television in background. A cut shows the image on the television: ballerinas dancing.
The film concludes with a student sitting on at an Apple edit suite and stating that these productions have helped encourage students to get a job in media.
