This film is from the Nowell collection and was made by Harrogate-based Fred Brackenbury. It shows a May Queen procession complete with maids of honour and page boys, as well as performances put on by the children who are dressed as animals. Hundreds of people line a field onto which a May Queen Pageant marches. The May Queen walks in front, carrying a bunch of flowers, while her long cloak is held by two page boys. They are followed by about a dozen girls wearing white dresses and flowers in their hair and behind them are a page boy with a cloak and another one with the crown. In the next section the Queen walks between two rows of her `subjects' while some other girls throw petals at her feet. Following this is a large group of girls doing a dance while dressed as fairies. There is a sequence of shots of children dressed as rabbits, a chicken and her chicks. Following this are more shots of the May Queen procession which is followed by numerous children pushing decorated prams and bicycles along the road. There are shots from the following year's parade including the Queen's procession, children dancing the Highland Fling, children dressed as toadstools and the Queen on her throne.
