The first half of the film shows some good action sequences from the match between Australia and the West Indies, whilst the second part is a commercial film, titled: ‘Visit to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef’. Match included is Australia v West Indies, 5th Test at Sydney on 25-29 January 1952.
The film begins with the match between Australia and the West Indies with one of the Australian batsmen, either Lindwall or Johnson, being caught by the wicket keeper. The film is taken close up from behind the bowlers end. The scoreboard shows Australia getting 216 in their first innings and the West Indies getting 272 and 203. Then Hassett gets out LBW for 102, getting a standing ovation.
After several more overs Langley gets done LBW for just a single run, with Australia 222 for 9. In an exciting last stand Australia push on to a score of 250, just 10 runs short. The two tail enders are playing a risky game of going for singles, nearly getting run out. Almost every ball of the last few overs are filmed as Australia finally manage to cross the line and get the winning runs. [8m]
The second half of the film is a commercial film, titled: ‘Visit to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef’. The film shows the fish, coral and other sea creatures of the Great Barrier Reef.
