This is a film made by Mexborough Technical College teacher George Spurr of his parents gardening in Denaby in the late 1950s.
The film begins with George’s parents in their back yard, at 15 Bolton St., Denaby Main. They are putting old Christmas tree on a wheelbarrow which the man then wheels off to his allotment which is boarded by corrugated sheets as fencing. He plants it near his hut. There is a panoramic view around the other allotments and the surrounding houses. The man continues to work on the allotment digging channels with a spade and sowing seeds. George arrives and watches over his father. There is a view over countryside with factories, the cooling towers of Mexborough Power Station, chimneys, and Denaby Colliery in the distance.
