This is a film of the Green family, from the West Yorkshire village of Clayton, at Butlins Holiday Camp in Skegness.
The film begins at the outdoor swimming pool at the Butlins holiday camp, with holidaymakers swimming near the three-tier fountain. Behind the pool is a large building with a large sign proclaiming: ‘Butlins Holiday Camp Our true intent is all for your delight’. The sign is shown again in neon light at night time. Eric and Dorothy Green are sat with their two daughters, Shirley and Moyra, on a seat. The chalets are shown close up. A large crowd sits at an outdoor service. There is a brass band and other events. In the fairground there is a ride consisting of a line of counterbalanced wheels, each with someone stood inside holding on and swinging back and forth.
A small car pulls a row of carriages around the camp site, followed by four horses pulling a carriage full of holidaymakers. Then there is an outdoor keep-fit class for ladies, followed by organised outdoor games for children. At the side of the path there is a sign stating, ‘Putting sticks and balls available from billiard steward’. There is a view across a playing field, with possibly a cricket match on the far side. Another sign states, ‘Butlins luxury holiday camp riding school. Lessons and hacking 2/6. Book here’. People are out riding and standing near the stables.
Elsewhere holidaymakers are sitting on the grass outside the chalets in the sunshine. Others are playing tennis. Back to the outdoor pool where there is a diving display and people swimming. There is also a swimming demonstration, possibly by E H Temme, the Channel swimmer. Then there is a game of water polo, with lots of onlookers sat around the pool. There is a sign for the Children’s Playground where there are small-sized houses with furniture to match and children playing in a sand pit and Shirley and Moyra on a see-saw. Out on a boating lake people are larking about in boats in their swimming costumes. The film switches to the beach where the Green family are playing, and Moyra goes for a donkey ride. The film closes looking over the beach and sea as the sun sets.
