Title - Bolsterstone Fayre
The film begins with the Stocksbridge Steel Works Brass Band playing in the village centre while people mill around the stalls. Then children in 17th costume do several different dances around a maypole to the accompaniment of traditional songs, such as the Lincolnshire Poacher which is played on an accordion.
Intertitle – Cream Teas
Back at the school, parents and children gather at tables and chairs to have cream teas. Some of the children are still dressed in 17th century costume. Elsewhere a group of children drink milk and make a pond, some making notes.
Intertitle – Tercentenary Banquet
Adults in 17th costume assemble for the banquet in a room and sit at two long tables for a lavish meal. A banner on a wall reads: ‘Aurora Musis Amica 1686-1986’. Children get dressed into 17th century costumes and do a singing rehearsal. They then perform some country dancing before sitting in a circle. Then a class of younger children change into costumes and again sit in a circle in a class before doing more country dancing and play oranges and lemons, followed by a game of pass the parcel. Then they all sit for dinner in the dining hall to the accompaniment of the piano playing jingle bells. They then sing Christmas carols.
Intertitle – End of year service
The children, still in the historical costume, sing Little Donkey, and perform the Christmas story. They finish singing Come All Yea Faithful.
