Intertitle - Stocksbridge Church Spring Fair.
The film begins with the May Queen being crowned and then giving a speech to the watching crowd. She is followed by the vicar and other speakers. Then there is a children’s fancy dress competition, and a brass band strikes up outside the Co-op. People mull around the stalls, selling food and other items. Inside, VIPS sit at a table with tea and cake. Outside children say prayers, and hymns are sung. Then they go on a procession, led by the brass band and followed by a Sunday school. The long procession makes its way through the town.

A brass band plays to a crowd in the rain. Then, indoors, a girl is crowned by a woman (the same one), with other children, also dressed up, watching. The woman guest receives a bouquet of flowers. Outside are decorated children’s bicycles.

The May Queen leads a procession to the school yard. She is then seated on a stage with her attendants and gets crowned to the applause of the watching parents. A teacher then leads singing, after which the children drink pop and play games.
Intertitle – A visit (£) to Ernie

Pinned against a wall is a sign for the Fun-Fair, with a cafeteria. People arrive at the fair, being held in some gardens. There are various games, including throwing horse shoes. Children are on the double swings, shown speeded up and then in slow motion. Some children have candy floss. In the village centre many people mingle around the stalls, eating ice cream, while a brass band plays. Outside the school speeches are being made to a small crowd. There is a pie-in-the-face attraction, trampolines and other games and rides, including bingo. The school bus has an advert for the fair, for Saturday 8th July.
Intertitle – Deepcar Playground Barbeque
A procession marches through the town, led by girl majorettes, followed by a drumming band. They assemble in a field at the back of houses, where there are speeches and a children’s fancy dress competition, with one little boy dressed as Andy Pandy. The majorettes, dressed in purple, parade around the field. Children then dance around a maypole and people eat burgers.
Intertitle – Scout Country Fayre
A crowd of people sit in a field listening to a speech. There are some tents and a ‘Guess My Age’ competition featuring a calf. A boy has a donkey ride while a brass band plays, next to an ice cream van. Among the items on sale on a stall are knitted dolls toilet roll covers. Some scouts and girl guides give a display of their cooking skills over an open fire. There is a game that involves trying to get a bale of hay through a raised timber square using a pole, and other games, including a home-made swing. The girl guides are making burgers for a cooking competition. In the evening they all gather around a large bonfire to sing.
Intertitle – Comic Cricket Match
The cricket match takes place in a stadium with a stand with ‘S.W.S.S.C. written on it (Stocksbridge Works Sports & Social Club). It is a mixed match of women and men, with many of the participants wearing silly clothing.
