The film begins showing various streets and shops in a rundown area of Stocksbridge, near the Manchester Road: Pearson Street, Hope Street, Gibson Lane and Ford Lane. Some of the houses are derelict. On one street is the Friendship Hotel. The roads are fairly empty except for the odd pedestrian, cyclist and car. The film then shows some new houses being built and a water treatment plant. A boy walks along a path through a wood, and a woman pushes a pram along a street. Other people walk along the same path through the wood.
There is a road busy with pedestrians and traffic where houses have been demolished. The area is awaiting a shopping development. Some building work has begun next to an off licence, T Bates Ltd.. A crowd of people pose for the camera with the Lord Mayor outside a building. Inside people stand around talking and having tea and sandwiches at an event. There is film of more derelict sites and new buildings. Lastly there is a rugby ground, with factory chimneys behind, and the film comes to an end.
