The film begins with a steam locomotive pulling wagons laden with scrap metal. Then it switches to inside a steel works with men shovelling material into large buckets which get tipped into a furnace. As they work the furnace with long rods, white hot molten steel is poured into a large container. Finally, large steel ingots emerge at the end of the process. An overhead crane pulls off the casing of the ingots to reveal them still red hot. The outside of the factory can be seen with three tall chimneys and railway sidings. The chimneys are shown in slow motion being knocked down with explosives, and parts of the old factory being dismantled.
Then, the new electric arc furnace is in operation, as the top of the furnace is manoeuvred into position and lowered onto the bottom half. A worker lets the molten metal pour out, and new material, slag, is added producing lots of different coloured light, gas and sparks. A large truck drives around the works. There is a row of red hot steel bars, which are cut into sections. Outside the factory a helicopter moves fire extractors over the plant. There is then a view across the factory and beyond taken from high up on the factory, showing the factory in all directions. Down below can be seen the railway sidings and a river. Further off there are houses and Kimberworth church on a hill.
The End.
