This is a film of a family from Holmfirth, and also shows the bicycle milk race passing through Holmfirth in 1970.
The film begins with two children (Richard and Peter marked on box) on a homemade raft on a river (‘dam’ marked on box). Three women sit and have tea in a garden backing on to the river, as the boys, now joined by a third, manoeuvre themselves on the raft.
The film switches to a line of girls dressed in white, along with other spectators, standing at the junction of the A6024 (to Stockport) and the A635 (to Manchester) in Holmfirth, along with stewards, including one on a motorcycle. The cyclists race around the bend coming along the Woodhead Road and up the Manchester Road. They are followed by police and cars. The film ends showing a large earth remover working in a clearing in a wooded area excavating for a dam, possibly for Mixenden Reservoir.
